“Importance of Independent Living for Persons with Deafblindness”

It is matter of pride that ICEVI is holding its World Conference in India for the first time. It is also 9 years since ICEVI held a World Conference. India is fast developing and what better way to draw the attention of the world to the needs of all children with visual impairment and deafblindness, than to hold the Conference in a prestigious University-The Baba Saheb Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad, India.

ICEVI World Conference will be held at Ahmedabad from 14 to 16 November 2024.  Experts from all over the world are congregating at Ahmedabad. The participants would get the opportunity to interact with the best brains in the world and learn from their experience and expertise. The World Conference may not be able to give in-depth exposure to a subject or give hands-on practical tips to participants. We have thus decided to hold Pre-conference Workshops where Participants can have intensive experience sharing sessions.

Deafblindness is a unique condition characterized by both hearing and vision loss, making it imperative to address the specific needs and challenges faced by individuals living with this condition.

Independent living is a critical aspect of quality of life for persons with deafblindness (PwDb) and it signifies autonomy and dignity, social inclusion and economic participation.

This pre-conference session aims to address the various aspects of the “Importance of Independent Living for Persons with Deafblindness” highlighting crucial areas and providing comprehensive coverage and ensuring a thorough understanding and actionable insights.

This may further empower the participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to support deafblind people in achieving a higher level of independence, ultimately aiming to enhance their quality of life and integration into society.

This pre- conference will be facilitated by the team from Sense International India.
